Work & Discussion with Yason Banal

Yason Banal’s work moves between performance, installation, photography, video and text, taking myriad forms and conceptual strategies in order to explore, perhaps even trigger, suppressed associations and links. The talk will give a short insight of his art practice, the south-east asian art community and his current exhibition in Graz Parisian Life – reflecting on and refract material, design and atmosphere, of certain systems, institutions and narratives, including their codes, objects and icons.
*Yason Banal obtained a BA in Film at the University of the Philippines, an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College-University of London, residencies at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and AIT in Tokyo, and visiting lectureships at London Metropolitan University and Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music. His works have been shown at the Tate, Frieze Art Fair, IFA Berlin, the Courtauld, Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Guangzhou Triennale, Singapore Biennale, Oslo Kunsthall, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and most recently at the Shanghai Biennale, Sharjah Biennale, Queens Museum of Art and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He is faculty at the University of the Philippines and works the studio-space WWW.ARTWORLD.XXX
